The project entered its full phase in 1996 and is now completed. The aims of the project was to change and update the curriculum of Hospitality and Tourism study under the undergraduate program including such priority areas as Management, Business Administration, Finance, Marketing, Sales Management, Human Resources Management; to organize short-term education for academic teachers of Western University in order to re-train them in the methods and techniques used in Western European schools; to provide exchange and joint preparation of teaching materials; to exchange teachers and students for short study periods; to provide appropriate equipment for applied teaching of the new curriculum.
As a result of the project Western University successfully established a new curriculum and enrolled first group of students on studies in Tourism and Hospitality Management course. They have already graduated the University and are the very first specialists in Azerbaijan to hold a Degree with major in Hospitality Management. East- West and West- East Staff & Student Mobility activities have been carried out.
Over the project span 9 students from Western University have undergone a short-term intensive training in the partner universities. In addition eight Western University staff members took six weeks to two-month internship each in average at the partner institutions in Dublin, Hague and Edinburgh on the Tourism and Hospitality related disciplines. This enabled the University to reinforce its pool of lecturers teaching Tourism and Hospitality. Visiting lecturers from Queen Margaret University College and Dublin Institute of Technology taught courses to Western University students in Baku. Our library stock in the area of Tourism and Hospitality Management has been enlarged due to the donations of the partner institutions. Additionally a Hotel School of Western University has been set up with the purpose of students’ training.
