Western University conducts tremendous work on integration to the World Education Process. It attracts highly qualified scientists and lecturers and has constant  exchange of experience and knowledge with international partners.

WU always strives to put its educational process and academic development in correspondence with the Western standards.

A joint project on academic collaboration between Western University and University of Siegen in Germany is one of the corroborative examples of Western University activity in this direction.

During the period from May 25 to June 6, 2004 a group of German students under the leadership of Professor of Public Law of University of Siegen Gerd Morgenthaler visited Azerbaijan in the frames of this project.

The main goal of the visit was conducting joint seminars on a number of legal issues. Particularly, issues connected with peculiarities of European and Azeri Legal Systems in comparative aspect were being discussed at the seminars. Students were actively participating in debates, analysis of the case studies, and exchanging of knowledge.

 

The topics of the presentations included the followings:

 

  • “European Legal System”- Prof. Gerd Morgenthaler, University of Siegen,
     
  • “The comparative analyses of administrative law” – Prof. Elmira Hajiyeva, head of Law faculty
     
  • “The principle of power division according to the Constitution of Azerbaijan Republic”- Sabina Zulfugarzade, teacher of  Humanitarian and  European Law
     
  • “Environmental protection of Caspian Sea” – Gulara Guliyeva, teacher of International Law
     
  • “The peculiarities of legal system of Azerbaijan” – Elshad Rustamov, a Master student of International Law

 

Besides, the tours to the several regions of Azerbaijan were envisaged. The German delegation visited  Sheki region where the seminars with the participation of representatives of local communities took place.
